Welcome to the first issue of E-learning Update, our new, free, monthly e-letter from CharityVillage Campus.
On the first Wednesday of each month, we'll bring you great e-learning resources, free special downloads that are exclusively for E-learning Update subscribers, and helpful answers to your questions.
You're receiving this newsletter because you have taken one of our online courses, or you signed up to hear about new courses as they are launched.
If you would like to continue receiving this newsletter, please click here to subscribe. Please note: we respect your privacy. Because you have opted to receive previous Campus-related communications with us, we will send you one more E-learning Update next month and will not e-mail you again unless you opt-in.
As one of our founding subscribers, if you opt-in for free this month, you'll also receive special preview access to "Smart board members questions about finance". This handy two-page resource from our upcoming course about "How Boards Work" includes 19 questions about financial issues that every board member should know how to ask.
It's yours for free when you subscribe to E-learning Update now. Free newsletter, free bonus preview resource -- how great is that!?
Last month, we launched our fourth custom course: Telling Your Story Through the Case for Support. Part of our fundraising series, the Case for Support course is designed to help you present your organization to potential supporters and make your cause irresistible. Find out more about the course, or register today.
Question: I have heard about creating a "core" Case for Support for my organization, but I'm not sure what to include. What should be in it?
Answer: Your organization's core case for support should answer the following questions:
1. Why you exist. What community needs do you serve?
2. What are your key services and programs?
3. Who benefits from your services?
4. What are your plans for the future? What programs and projects do you plan to deliver?
5. How much will it cost? Where will the money come from?
6. Why is your organization qualified to carry out this work?
7. Who should support you and why?
Typically, a core Case for Support includes all of the information you need to generate other fundraising materials, such as brochures, fundraising letters and proposals, or web site copy. The core case should be about the whole organization, but include information about the projects and programs that are the focus for specific fundraising campaigns. Your core case should be as long as it needs to be to answer all of the above questions. It might be as few as five pages, or as many as 50.
Got a question that you'd like answered in an upcoming issue? E-mail it to us today at campus@charityvillage.com.
"Prior to taking the [Proposal Writing] course, the idea of writing a grant seemed overwhelming; I didn't know where to begin. This course's organized presentation of information allowed me to easily plan for several grant proposals. Since completion of the course, I have applied for three grants and have been awarded funding for all of them."-- Manon Beaudrie
