Helping real people in the real world, every day

This is a different kind of Internet story. It's not about the latest "gee-whiz" gimmicks, or how to get rich in cyberspace, or the latest hot Internet stock.

It's about a small Canadian company that has been quietly building a place where people interested in helping their communities can connect online, with each other and with information, and it's the largest site of its kind in the world.

When a woman from Northern Ontario needed funds to bring her niece to Toronto for frequent medical treatments, she e-mailed CharityVillage for help in her search for resources.
When a food bank in Vancouver needed a trailer of food moved west from Winnipeg, they posted their request on the CharityVillage Volunteer Bulletin Board.
When a small service organization in Sackville, Nova Scotia wanted to get the word out about an upcoming national fundraiser, they turned to the CharityVillage Coming Events page to help promote it.
When a Vancouver-based charity needed equipment for its work in war-torn areas of Mexico and Central America, it posted its requirements at the CharityVillage HelpLink section.
When a newly organized Society needed funding for its community programs in the Northwest Territories, it consulted the Sources of Funding section of CharityVillage.
When an educational foundation in London, Ontario, needed a Campaign Director, they advertised the position in the CharityVillage Career Centre.
To invite examples for a guide on partnerships between Government and the Voluntary Sector, the writer e-mailed her inquiry to CharityVillage NewsWeek.
These are just a few of the people and groups that have found help on the Internet every day for the past year through CharityVillage. "They are an early sign of the potential of this medium to effect change and share resources," according to Doug Jamieson, CEO of CharityVillage Inc., the company that produces the site.
