Canadian Book of Charities
A searchable database of Canadian charities organized alphabetically and by subject area. Also includes information for professionals dealing in wills and trusts.
- Center for Effective Philanthropy
Advances the practice of philanthropy by providing management and governance tools, research reports, and other publications that help to define, assess, and improve overall foundation performance.
- Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy
Promotes more effective philanthropy and strengthens the nonprofit sector through research that informs philanthropic decision making and public policy to advance public problem solving.
- Charity Navigator
A nonprofit organization that aims to help donors find the charity that best matches their interests and beliefs. The site offers analysis of the financial health of more than 1,100 charities, giving calculators, a donors bill of rights, articles about philanthropy, and other resources aimed at donors.

For 50 years, the Council on Foundations has helped foundation staff, trustees and board members in their day-to-day grantmaking activities. Through one-to-one technical assistance, research, publications, conferences and workshops, legal services, and a wide array of other services, the Council addresses the important issues and challenges that face foundations and corporate funders.
- Cybergrants
An online meeting place for grant-seekers and foundations. Nonprofits can search grant guidelines and create on-line proposals which are submitted directly to member foundations. Member foundations can use a grantmaking and reporting system which allows for on-line proposal reviews.

- Foundation Center, The
The mission of the Foundation Center is to foster public understanding of the foundation field by collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating information on foundations, corporate giving, and related subjects.
- Foundations Online
A directory of links to American grantmaking foundations, including community foundations, corporate and private foundations.
- Funders Online
An initiative of the European Foundation Centre Orpheus Programme. The mission of the European Foundation Centre (EFC), the site offers online tools and information for foundations and corporate funders in Europe.
- Give.org
Created by the Better Business Bureau, this site offers lots of information related to ethical standards within the charitable community. Resources are included to help both donors and charities, such as charity reports, tips on giving, and charity standards.
- Giving Forum (The)
Created by the Regional Associations of Grantmakers, the site offers knowledge centres dedicated to giving circles, rural philanthropy, engaging professional advisors, youth in philanthropy, and much more.
- GrantBenefit
Developed by Community Foundations of Canada to help grantmakers better demonstrate the impact of their grantmaking.
- Grantcraft
A source of practical wisdom from grantmakers on the tools and techniques of effective grant making, including guides, case studies, and other articles all available for free download.
- Grantmakers for Effective Organizations
Offers an online content database of more than 1,000 resources, articles, links, and research papers related to grantmaking and organizational effectiveness.
- GuideStar
A searchable database of more than 620,000 nonprofit organizations in the United States.
- Imagine Canada
A national charitable organization dedicated to advancing the role and interests of the charitable sector for the benefit of Canadian communities. Highlights of the site include The Canadian Directory to Foundations & Grants and an Information Centre featuring material from the organization's publications.
- National Center for Charitable Statistics
The national repository of data on the nonprofit sector in the United States. It is a program of the Urban Institute's Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy, and its mission is to develop and disseminate high quality data on nonprofit organizations and their activities.
- National Charities Information Bureau
NCIB's mission is to promote informed giving and to enable more contributors to make sound giving decisions.
- NewTithing Group
Offers resources for donors, investors, financial advisors, private foundations, and corporate giving programs, including the PrudentPal Charitable Giving Planner - an online budgeting tool, annual research on wealth and affordable donations, and a guide to assessing nonprofit performance and accountability.
- United States International Grantmaking Project (USIG)
An educational and informational resource for those interested in doing international grantmaking. Includes an introduction to the practice of international grantmaking, resources for different types of funders, and information for grantseekers.
- VenturePhilathropyGuide.org
Natasha van Bentum's helpful and comprehensive guide to the emerging world of venture philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. Includes links to key resources, articles, and information for fundraisers and social entrepreneurs.
