A is for Ask: A Fundraising Guide

By Betsy Clarke; 135 pages; $25.00; Canadian School Boards Association, 350-130 Slater Street, Ottawa, ON, K1P 6E2; (613) 235-3724 or eMail: admin@cdnsba.org

Tired of selling raffle tickets or hocking memberships for long hours over the phone? Why not have "Death by Dessert," or a "Shrinking Coffee Party"?

The Canadian School Boards Association's fundraising hint book A is for Ask, written by fundraising consultant Betsy Clarke, contains 35 other interesting and unique fundraising activities - and that's just one chapter of this helpful book.

A is for Ask covers all aspects of fundraising, from the elements of a successful campaign, to the ethics of fundraising, to how to get publicity for your event. In addition, it includes Ken Wyman's Event-Ability Quiz which helps answer the question, do we or don't we hold this event?

Much of the information in the book has been tested in the real world, as most of the events or methods have come from organizations who've found them to be successful. Although a good portion of the book is appropriate for schools and their activities, most of it can be applied to just about any organization looking for ways to raise a few bucks.
