Meet the founder of CharityVillage Ltd.

Doug Jamieson is chairman and CEO of CharityVillage Ltd.

He has been involved for more than 40 years with communications and technology, and is an experienced traveller in cyberspace. In fact, Doug was already online in 1981, with a 300-baud modem and an acoustic coupler, dialling into early online databases. As the Internet evolved, he became convinced that it could deliver services and tools to help organizations build capacity, improve productivity and increase efficiency.

A chance meeting with Jim Hilborn, publisher of Canadian FundRaiser, gave birth to the concept of an online service centre for charities and other nonprofit organizations, an idea that was refined through discussions with many leaders and influencers in the sector.

In 1995, with Jim's support, Doug launched CharityVillage.com®, the huge, ground-breaking, award-winning site that has become one of Canada's most popular web sites and an institution in the nonprofit sector. For the full story, read "A Decade of Making A Difference."

Simultaneously, he wrote NPO Webmaster, the first-ever book of its kind for nonprofit organizations, to help them plan, design, produce, promote and maintain successful Web sites.

In his role as Chairman, his major focus now is the exploration of new ways that CharityVillage.com may facilitate the exchange of information and ideas among managers and professionals in the sector, and he invites you to send along any ideas or feedback that might be helpful.

Doug may be reached by e-mail at doug@charityvillage.com.
