What's the fastest way to create an ad? (Check out our PDF version with screenshots)

We've done our best to create an ad-posting process for you that is both easy to use and flexible enough to accommodate your individual design requirements. Using any new system for the first time is often a challenge. We're here to help. Please feel free to call our HelpDesk and we'll walk you through the process over the phone or answer any of your questions.

  1. Please prepare the text of your ad in a word processing program first (e.g. Word, WordPerfect). Don't worry about formatting -- the complete text is most important. This will save time and possible problems later.

  2. Go to the Advertiser Log-in page

  3. Enter your email address and password and click the "Log-in" button.
If you have forgotten your log-in information, use the password reminder service to reset it.

  4. When you are logged in to the "My Desk" screen, click the "Create Job Ad" link.

  5. Choose a language for your ad -- "English", "French", or "Bilingual" and click the "Next" button. Please note: if you wish to receive the second language discount for a bilingual ad, you must use the bilingual form.

  6. Fill in the Listing Options information

Required fields are marked with a red asterix (*). All other fields are optional. If you have questions about an field, just click the Question icon (?).

Here's a summary of the Listing Options fields:

Listing Start Date: this is the date that your listing will be visible to users on the site. It defaults to today.

Application Deadline: this is the last day that applicants can apply for the position. Your listing will be removed from public view at the end of the application deadline date. The application deadline can be a maximum of 60 days from the listing start date.

Job Title: the job title or request for proposal title.

Employer name: defaults to your organization's name, but you can change it if needed.

If you want to run a confidential ad, click the "confidential" check box and we'll hide the employer name and your logo(s) from job seekers.

Applicants quote job #: if you have an internal reference number for the position, enter it here. Otherwise, leave this field blank.

Your Purchase Order #: if you required a P.O. number on your invoice, enter it here. Otherwise, leave this field blank.

Logos: Upload your organization's logo and add it to your listings by checking the checkbox to the left of the logo image.

Position Type: Select the employment type for this opening (e.g. full time, part time contact etc.)

Job Category: Select up to four categories to describe your opening. To select multiple categories, hold down the CTRL key while clicking (CMD+ click for Macs).

Career Level: Select the appropriate career level for the opening.

Salary Range: Select a low and high salary range for the position and click the checkbox to display the salary range on the listing. If the rate is hourly or other, enter the hourly wage in the box below the salary range checkbox.

Region: Where will the person sit at their desk? Select the region(s) where the opportunity is located. DO NOT select regions where you want to promote the opening. If the position is home-based, select "Flexible". If the opening is international, select "International" and enter city/country information in the "Location Detail" field.

Location Postal Code: Enter the postal code of the location where the opportunity is located. It defaults to your office postal code. If you have an opening for multiple locations, separate the postal codes by comma. If the location is flexible, enter H0H 0H0.

Once you've filled in the form, click the "Next" button.

  7. Enter the job description and contact information
Copy and paste or type your job description into the form. Use the edit tools to update the look of your description.

Don't forget to add contact information for how candidates should reach you here.

Once you've filled in the form, click the "Next" button.

  8. Preview. This is how your ad will look when it goes live on the site. Please review it carefully to make sure that you have everything correct (mistyped fax numbers and email addresses are the most common mistake).

If you are posting a bilingual job listing, you will be able to preview the French version by clicking on the "Switch Language" link at the top of the page.

If you need to edit anything, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Back", "Edit Listing Info" or "Edit Listing Description" buttons.

If the ad looks good, click the "Publish Now" button to submit the listing for approval.

If you want to save the listing and submit it later, click the "Publish Later" button to save it to your Desk. You can submit it anytime.

  9. Shopping Cart. You will see the title of your job ad listed as well as the price.

If you wish to create another ad before placing your order, click the "Create Another Job Ad" link and repeat steps 5-8 as needed.

If everything looks okay, click the "Next" button to proceed to the payment section.

  10. Payment. Select your desired payment option (Credit Card or Invoice Me) and fill in the appropriate contact information. When you're ready to submit your order, click the "Place Order" button. Transactions can take up to 2 minutes to process (but are usually much faster!), so thanks for your patience.

  11. When your order is processed, you'll receive a confirmation message with a link to your invoice. We'll also email a copy of the invoice to your desired billing contact.

That's all there is to it! Again, if you have any questions about posting an ad, please contact your local HelpDesk Manager.
