We implemented the changes to the Volunteer and Event listings
for several reasons:
- The volume of listings has grown to the point where we could
no longer maintain each page manually, and an automated system
was needed.
- The number of listings on many pages was huge (up to 250
on any given day), so the listings were very slow to load for
those with dial-up connections, and offered only limited search
capability.
- Advertisers were asking for more functionality to help them
manage their listings (e.g. extending, editing, deleting, suspending,
reactivating listings).
- Event seekers were asking for more services, such as e-mail
alerts, and better search features that allow them to look for
events of interest by location, event type, and organization
focus (e.g. arts, environment, health etc.).
